How do i hand-sew backing on to a hexagon quilt?

Once I have finished the front and sandwiched it with the wadding and backing fabric, how do I stitch them together? Should I just stitch along the zig zag lines of the hexagons in the ditch? Is that enough or do I need to go around each hexagon again?
